On short notice I approached CPG about a trip to someplace in the world. We talked about Venezuela. They did extensive research on Venezuela. They advised me not to go there because of the political unrest.We talked about a few other places before we talked about South Africa. Capet Town intrigued me. So CPG set me up with a tour with Lion World. It was a long flights, Toronto to Washington, Washington to Johannesburg, Johannesburg to Cape Town (a wee glitch in Johannesburg, my driver showed up about a half hour late but I was patient and stayed with the tour operators at the pickup point, everyone was helpful and all turned out good.) arrived in my room in Cape Town at 12:00 midnight. Hit the sack right away. Up early, opened the drapes, it was the most beautiful view with the sunrise on the ocean. Ships, boats, sail boats, freighters, and all from the state of the art Table Top Hotel. First on my agenda was tour of Table Top Mountain, a MUST do early in the morning and then city tour which is after breakfast on the patio beside the harbour with yachts. The afternoon I enjoyed downtown Cape Town watching and talking to people from all over the world. In the evening I sat in a tidy little bar in a well secured mall area attached to my Hotel. Food and drink everywhere in this mall was fantastic. The next day was the wine tour. I do not drink wine but went along anyway and enjoyed the country side. That was the day I wish I had done the whale tour. That night back to the mall for some fine dining, the next day all day peninsula tour. Breathtaking scenery along the coast, beaches, rock cliffs, and the point is spectacular. I saw wild life such as ostriches, penguins, but take note do not mess with the Baboons. In my tour van was a lady about 65 who had a chocolate bar in her hand bag. Baboons can scent that and attacked her. Fortunately I was close to her when he attacked and I was able to scare him off by running at him yelling and kicking. Unfortunately when the lady turned to get away from the Baboon she stumbled and fell tearing ligaments in her hip and put a 9 inch baseball size lump on her elbow. She was taken to the hospital after about an hour with the paramedics. Her first day in Africa was her last day as well. I went back to the 5 star hotel and the mall for more drink and dinner. The next morning said goodbye to Cape Town, flew to Johannesburg where a driver picked me up and drove me back into the jungle about 3 hours where I met my safari guide and driver. I was on a game drive within an hour. It was a private park, with all the animals. In my first day of 3, I was impressed at the 40,000 acre enclosed park. I got within a few feet of elephants, rhino’s, etc. At the lodge the drink and dinner was excellent there was a campfire, with the entertainment by the cooks, cleaning ladies, servers, bartenders, staff in general. It was well done with African music and dance. (I am not going to tell you what all takes place in a safari. You have to find out for yourself. Except I must say coming within 30 feet of a black manned African lion in open air left me speechless, to say the least. Well back to JoBurg to Washington to Toronto. It was a long trip, a lot of air time. But if you want to see it, you have to go there. I did and I am glad I did. Thanks Cachet Partners Group I will be talking to you soon about the next trip.
P.S. Every facet of this trip impressed me. It is tough to put a trip like this into words.
